    Careers

Inspiring the next generation in the world of work

Elsley Primary School was delighted to host its annual Careers’ Day on Thursday, 13th February.

The aim of our Careers’ Day is to provide pupils with an opportunity to gain insight into a wide range of careers, as well as the skills and qualities required for different roles. We want to inspire and educate children about the many career opportunities available, helping them to see the link between education, skills, and the world of work. By showcasing diverse professions and relatable role models, we aim to broaden pupils' horizons, challenge stereotypes, and promote high aspirations.

An incredible 97% of pupils said that they now have a better understanding of the types of jobs available.

The school welcomed a range of visitors, including doctors, nurses, journalists, artists, musicians, accountants, tax inspectors, actors, detectives, and many more. There were also online sessions about careers in marketing.

Beyond learning about specific jobs, Careers’ Day also encouraged pupils to develop key character skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, resilience, creativity, and communication—all essential qualities for future success in any profession. Whether it was the critical thinking needed by detectives, the precision and care shown by midwives, or the creativity of artists, pupils had the opportunity to explore how these skills are used in real-world careers.

Pupils shared their favourite parts of the day:

    • "I got a better understanding of what a scientist does in their day-to-day job. I feel more motivated now to be a scientist." – Year 5 Pupil
    • "The engineer was good because of the jet activity.I enjoyed learning how to make paper aeroplanes fly in different directions." – Year 4 Pupil
    • "I loved learning how midwives weigh babies." – Year 3 Pupil
    • "I liked creating art. I didn’t know an artist was a job!" – Year 2 Pupil

This year’s Careers’ Day was another huge success, and we are incredibly grateful to all the visitors who took the time to join us, both in person and virtually. Our children have been truly inspired, and we love hearing their ideas about what they want to do in the future!
